Training Team

In Dorset we have 3000 adult volunteers who are as much a part of Scouting’s Adventure as the Young People.

These adults receive support in many ways, one of them is by the Training Scheme whose focus is on developing them to be active and effective as leaders, managers and supporters. And to enjoy what they are doing.

On taking up your role, you will be allocated a Training Adviser. They are part of the county training team and may be your line manager or someone with experience of scouting or someone who’s just finished their training and knows the ropes. Locally, people are matched up, usually by the Local Training Manager. We call our Training Advisers, TAs. Most of your contact about your training with be with this person so take a little time to get to know them.

Each district has a Local Training Manager (LTM). They support the local TA’s and keep the managers in the district informed and work with any issues they raise. Some also manage delivery of local courses such as Getting Started modules. They liaise with the appointments committee and with the wider training team. Each LTM has a Local Training Administrator working alongside them.

Another key group of people you’ll meet is the Trainers. They deliver the courses across the county, offer guidance and inspiration, and share their knowledge with you.

The whole training team is managed by Gary Rice, County Training Manager, ctm@dorsetscouts.org.uk. Jackie Gregory is our County Training Administrator supporting everyone and can be contacted on cta@dorsetscouts.org.uk.
