King’s Scout Award

A chat over dinner between Baden-Powell and King Edward VII led to the creation of the King’s Scout award in 1909. It has run ever since, changing to the Queen’s Scout award in 1952, and then back to King’s Scout award in 2024 and is the highest award a scout can achieve.

The royal link continues – achieve the King’s Scout Award and you will be invited to the annual celebration at Windsor Castle.

King’s Scouts in Dorset

Here at Dorset Scouts, we are extremely proud of our existing King’s / Queen’s Scouts and we are pleased to support the King’s Scouts of the future. For support or a chat, please contact our Programme Team Leader, Bradley Pickering bradley.pickering@dorsetscouts.org.uk

Achieving King’s Scouts Award

Don’t expect it to be easy as it is scouting’s biggest challenge. You can work towards the award between 16 and 25 years of age, in Explorer Scouts and/or in Network Scouts.

There are four main areas; Membership; Nights away; International, Community, and Values activities; and Challenges. The Challenges can be signed off if you hold the Gold DofE award.
To complete the award, you must do a presentation before sign-off.

Register for the Award

If you are interested in completing the award, please complete the following information and a member of the County Team will be in touch with your information pack. The County Team will then arrange a discussion with you about starting the award, and provide you with assistance and mentoring along your adventure. Whilst you can back-date some of your activities to your 16th birthday, get yourself registered early so you’re sure what is expected of you. You may feel the deadline of your 25th birthday is way off, but don’t be caught out, fill in the form now and get the pack and the support.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
