International

All scouts belong to the worldwide family of Scouts and they all wear the purple membership badge.

Did you know it’s estimated that over 350 million have worn this badge and right now there are over 40 million young people in over 216 Scouting countries and territories enjoying scouting, all with this badge on their uniform.

That’s where international scouting starts. It is also in our Global badge activities; My World Challenge, Our World Challenge, World Challenge, International activities and Explorer Belt. International activities and international understanding are an integral part of Scouting. Scouts of all ages might get involved in understanding world issues and supporting disasters, clean water campaigns, refugee plights and more.

Then there’s international experiences organised by groups, districts and county. And invitations to be selected to UK and World camps such as the iconic World Jamboree every 4 years, the next of which will be Poland in 2027!

Every year there is Jamboree on the Air (JOTA) and Jamboree on the Internet (JOTI) which are worldwide events where technology is used to link scouts up around the world and exchange their experiences and ideas. The next  JOTA-JOTI will be in October, and information can be found on their website here.

For information surrounding running your own international experience, please see the Visits Abroad Process on the Scouts website. Please email completed Part A forms to Claire at claire.mitchell@dorsetscouts.org.uk.

Leaders can contact Bradley to get support in all these aspects of international scouting bradley.pickering@dorsetscouts.org.uk.

In his last message, our founder Baden-Powell inspired all scouts to

“leave the world a little better than you found it”

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
