Brownsea 113 Launched!

Date: 15th Jun 2020 Author: County Office

Who said summer camp can’t go ahead? Since when was the only way to visit Brownsea Island by going on a ferry? Summer 2020 is certainly different to what we all had planned, but that is not going to stop us keeping as much of the ‘out’ in Scouting as possible.

113 years ago this August the first scout summer camp took place on Brownsea Island. To celebrate this and to bring together our Dorset scouting family, we are bringing everything right up to date for the digital 21st Century.

Everyone in Dorset Scouting and from the wider scouting family is invited to Dorset Scouts’ Virtual Camp … ‘Brownsea One One Three’.

Over the weekend of 8th and 9th August there will be a series of activities and events available on-line for everyone of all ages. We also encourage everyone to get into the garden, or in your lounge, ‘build’ a shelter or pitch a tent, and see if we can get 10,000 people camping together.

Brownsea 113 is completely free, with all the events and activities available on-line.  For now you can follow us on Brownsea113 Facebook page.  We will keep you updated with all the information you need and about things you can do in the lead up to ‘camp’.

We look forward to seeing you all there! You can register for free here:

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
