Happy Founder’s Day!

Every year on 22 February, we take this opportunity to recognise the birthday of Scouting’s Founder, Lord Robert Baden-Powell, and to celebrate the lasting legacy of the Scout Movement which for 115 years has empowered young people with the life and leadership skills to improve their communities, and create a better world.

What began with a small group of Scouts on Brownsea Island, has grown into a worldwide Movement of 57 million young people and volunteers united together by the Scout Promise, a shared set of values, and a commitment towards service.

Over the past year, we have seen countless examples of how Scouts and National Scout Organizations have worked to support their communities during this global pandemic, while also finding new and innovative ways to continue delivering Scouting’s Youth Programme at home, online and now in-person once again.

Through local projects and WOSM initiatives such as the Messengers of Peace and Earth Tribe, Scouts are also contributing towards building peace, promoting gender equality, responding to humanitarian crises, and leading the way on environmental sustainability – all while logging over 2.5 billion hours of community service towards the Sustainable Development Goals on the Scouts for SDGs website.

This year, as we get back to nature and gradually return to Scouting in-person, we hope to draw on our Movement’s collective strength, and continue to offer even more activities and events for young people to reconnect and develop new skills. A series of international events open to Rovers, a Jamboree online and over the airwaves, six Regional Scout Youth Forums and Conferences, and a World Scout Jamboree in 2023 are just some of the exciting opportunities on the horizon to look forward to.

These efforts and so much more are the lasting legacy of our Founder B-P – a global Movement which continues to grow and inspire more young people and volunteers to experience the transformative education Scouting has to offer on their way to becoming active citizens who are prepared to take on the challenges of our modern world.

We hope you celebrate this impact with us, and wish you a very happy Founder’s Day!

Yours in Scouting,
