Celebrating Achievement!

Date: 21st Sep 2021 Author: County Office

Dorset Scouts recently held a Celebration of Achievement evening at the Crown Hotel, Blandford to recognise outstanding achievements and efforts by young members and adult Scouters alike, during the recent pandemic. From a six year old’s lifesaving efforts of his Mother, to a very young lady who went over and beyond the call of duty to help the elderly in her community. The evening recognised the achievements of all ages and also celebrated voluntary long service, with some having completed 60 years in the Scout Movement.

Civic guests included the Lord Lieutenant of Dorset Mr Angus Campbell, Mr Michael Dooley, High Sheriff of Dorset alongside Mayors and Councillors from Blandford, Bournemouth, Christchurch, Weymouth & Portland, Gillingham, Dorchester, Wareham and Shaftesbury.

Along with our County President, Captain Michael Fulford-Dobson, Dorset Scouts Vice Presidents and Mr Robin Clay, the Grandson of Lord Baden Powell and his wife.

An audience of 90 guests were also shown videos clips from virtual camps held during the lockdown to ensure Scouts across Dorset were kept active and entertained through the pandemic.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
