Land, Sea and Air Activities

Activities are an integral part of Scouting, and what makes it so exciting for the young people involved. Adventurous activities whether on land, in the air or on the water, are even better.

Whilst adventurous activities are sometimes offered locally, as it requires specialist adult skills, Dorset Scouts offer events to all our Young People (subject to age).

International Activities

Young People in scouting are encouraged to think globally and learn about our world. By offering international experiences, they can extend their comfort zone, meet and understand other cultures and learn about themselves.

Whilst international activities are sometimes offered locally, as it requires such a high level of volunteer time and commitment, Dorset Scouts offer events to all our Young People (subject to age).

County-Level Competitions

These are invitation only events to challenge our young people to pitch their expertise against their peers in a friendly environment.

Districts often run their own competition to identify who gets the invitation. Competitions such as County Banner has been testing young people’s camping skills for decades, where good cooks aim for the Cooking Competition.

County Events

County events are large-scale events which give our young people a different experience, whether it’s the buzz of so many people or opportunities that can’t be offered locally. County has run camps for 2000+ people, charity events and celebration events such as the huge camp for Cubs 100th year.

And sometimes these events are international. Jurassic Jamboree in 2018 is Dorset’s turn to host scouts from many countries and from its own county.

Duke of Edinburgh and Kings Scout

Dorset Scouts supports all our Young People to take up the opportunity to achieve their Duke of Edinburgh awards, Bronze, Silver and Gold, and their Kings Scout Award the highest possible award in Scouting.

Whilst the relevant activities and support may be offered locally sometimes they do not have the scale or the skills. Dorset Scouts complements the local scouting to provide all our Young People (subject to age) with the opportunities and support to achieve these top awards.

Put your phone down and what are you left with? Just teamwork, courage and the skills to succeed.’
