MAZUNGU 2008

Due to the political situation in Kenya at the end of last year and unstable situation in the border region of Uganda and the Congo, the leadership team had no choice but to postpone the trip to Uganda and Kenya.

Plans are now well under way for 18 young people and 6 leaders to work on a project close to Kamapla, Uganda during the summer of 2009. Whilst the project is not fully finalised, it is envisaged that the project will involve supplying fresh drinking water to a village.

It is very common that villagers get their drinking water from springs and streams shared by animals,  other villagers washing, using as a toilet etc in the same water. This is obviously a cause of serious illness and disease.

The project Dorset Scouts will likely be doing will provide something that we all take for granted – fresh safe drinking water. This will be done by channelling the water from its source to a single point in the centre of the village.

After just over two weeks working on the project the team will travel to Kenya, where they go on safari and will visit Patxu the home of Baden-Powell and his grave at Nyeri.

Each Scout and Leader has to raise a personal contribution of £2500 for their part in the project, if you would like to help, please contact Mike Parkes cc@dorsetscouts.org.uk

A change of plan..
